Sightseeing
Oko-no-taki
Highest waterfall on Yakushima at 88m. It has been selected as the 100 Best Waterfalls in Japan.
A few minute walk from Oko-no-taki stop (no.129). Two or three buses a day.
Toroki-no-taki
At 6m, it’s not a large waterfall but a unique one that falls directly to the sea.
One minute walk from Tainokawa stop (no.87).
Across the street is Pontankan, a shop that sells local vegetables, fruits and gifts.
Senpiro-no-taki
Magnificent waterfall that created the massive granite gorge that can be seen from the viewing spot.
Cherryblossoms bloom from the end of Feburuary to the begining of March.
40 minute walk from Tainokawa stop (no.87).
Onsen
Onoaida Onsen
A public hot spring in a traditional looking cedar house. Just a few minutes walk from Onoaida Onsen Iriguchi bus stop (no. 98). Very hot!

Yakushima Onsen
A hot spring in JR Hotel Onoaida with an amazing view of the sea with two baths, one inside and the other outside.
Hours: 15:00-18:00

Hiruchi Kaichu Onsen
An open-air hot spring that you can bathe two hours before and after low-tide. Mixed bath. Five minute walk from Kaichu Onsen stop (no. 112)
Admission: 200 yen
Yudomari Onsen
An open-air hot spring by the sea. The water is not very hot so not recommended for bathing in the winter. Five minute walk from Yudomari stop (no. 114)

Kusugawa Onsen
Small public hot spring in the village next to Miyanoura. A few minute walk from Yunokawa Onsen stop (no. 38)

Yunoko-no-yu
A public hot spring with with private baths for one group at a time. Call 0997-42-0305 to make a reservation. By Yakushima Comprehensive Nature Park in Miyanoura

Suginoya
Make your own cedar chopsticks from Yakusugi cedar.
Koseda Shop is next to the airport. Miyanoura Shop is on the road towards to Shiratani Unsuikyo.

Yawaraka
Create an aromatic spray using Yakushima cedar or local citrus.

Make a bracelet with yakusugi beads and natural stones.
